Triple Double Exposure Tutorial

This is a tutorial for two overlaying images on top of a picture.

Once the image is in Smart Photo Editor, you might be happy with how it is but if not, now is the time to edit your base photo, I have blurred the background a bit and changed the photo to black and white. Click here to see how to apply these effects.

Click on ‘Composite’ button on the right hand side. Then on the left hand side there are both two options, ‘Overlay’ and ‘Underlay’, we want the ‘Overlay’, click the ‘New’ button next to Overlay and choose one of your images and then click ‘Move, Resize and Scale’ button on the left to change the size and place roughly where you want it.

Now repeat this for the second image.

moving

Once both images are loaded, it’s time to place them. Lower the Opacity of both layers. To move each layer you have to click on the layer (like in Photoshop) and click the move button at the top.

Once in place it is time to remove the parts of the images you no longer want, to do this you click the layer you want to edit and then click the ‘Select Area’ button further up on the left hand side. Making sure it is on ‘Erase from Selection’ start to go other the parts you no longer what.

A tip for this is go around your image completely and the click the bucket that will appear (see above image), click on this for it to all be erased.
zoomed in for last bit

Once you have done one image, just click on the other layer and repeat.
along the edge

There is a ‘Pan/Zoom’ tool on the left hand side that you can use to zoom in and get your selection exact. If you accidentally go too far over there is ‘Undo’ or you can just select the ‘Add to Selection’ button and go over what you want back.

When you think you are done, zoom out to the whole image to double check, then you are all finished

Adjust the opacity of both layers until you are happy with the result.

final 2

This is a great final image or if you want to take it one stage further, I have added the effect ‘Mirror water ripple effect multiply’ to the photo.
